How Do I Upload a Route to My Simrad

In this blog mail service, along with an accompanying, brusk video I explicate how to upload a GPS cycling route to the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt bike computer.

For the example in the video, I used RideWithGPS as the mapping software, and in fact, someone else (the organiser of the Bound Forward Sportive) had created the route.

All I did was to sync it with the Wahoo ELEMNT smartphone app and, from in that location, sync it with my own GPS device. Simples!

The principle is the same if you want to upload routes to your Wahoo device from other software platforms: go them syncing and, hey presto, information technology should all just work.

Also, whilst I don't own either the original ELEMNT bike GPS or the ELEMNT ROAM, I am pretty certain the process is the aforementioned.

Anyhow, here is the video showing me doing it:

And by 'hard fashion' I of form mean 'quite like shooting fish in a barrel'. Because most things nigh the ELEMNT Bolt are pretty piece of cake. In fact, my showtime road upload experience almost happened by blow.

I had an early opportunity to test the navigation capabilities of the Bolt outside my local expanse. Not long afterwards buying the BOLT, I participated on a 'Bike Day' organised by my august (note: not August – I work there all twelvemonth…) employer. Essentially it was a supported mini-sportive to entertain customers that aren't that bothered about golf, merely are bothered about lycra (cycling of cours due eastbeingness the new golf…).

Unnywho, the ride was in Warwickshire, which I don't know well, and the organisers supplied a gpx file of the road. Although I knew that at that place would be ride leaders with every group, providing homo navigation rather than satellite, I idea I'd all the same endeavor out the Bolt.

Here'due south What I Did:

  1. I downloaded the .gpx file onto my work computer.
  2. Then I emailed it to my personal hotmail account (yeah I still employ hotmail) thinking I would probably have to do something on my home figurer later.
  3. In a freak moment of self-doubt, I decided to cheque my iPhone to see if the electronic mail had arrived.

Email GPX file to iphone

A quick tap on the icon within the electronic mail and the 'what practise you desire to do with it?' pick box popped up. Lo and behold, there was an 'Import with ELEMNT' icon. Intriguing.

And reader I tapped it.

Smash! There information technology was in my list of routes in the Wahoo app….

… set up to exist investigated in more detail:

Come Cycle Day, all I had to do was observe the route on my BOLT device and and so follow it.

Now disappointingly, it was my iPhone that permit me downwardly on the solar day. I didn't get many photos, certainly none of them demonstrated the navigational capabilities of the BOLT.

In any event, similar those created via Strava, the road file supplied by the ride organisers didn't contain turn-by-turn directions (shame on them!), and then it wasn't flashing up directional cues to me on the ride anyway.

You'll have to wait until later on this post in order to encounter photovisualimagery of the BOLT in route-following action (ooh Monty, you tease…).

The Even Easier Way To Upload A Route To Your ELEMNT Commodities

Whilst the above 'accidental upload' (which would be the name of my '80s revival experimental synth-pop band) filled me with a surprising corporeality of delight, it turns out there is an fifty-fifty easier and more effective way of uploading routes to the BOLT (and I presume the bog-standard ELEMNT also).

I've hinted at it already.

All you have to do is create a road in an app similar RideWithGPS, make sure that your account on said app is connected with your Wahoo business relationship, and and so sync the 2. Any rides created in RideWithGPS (or any) should then just popular up on the list of routes, whether that'due south in the Wahoo app…

… Or on the BOLT device itself.

How To Follow A Route On The ELEMNT BOLT (Whilst Riding Your Bike)

Now this is really complicated. No, expect, typo. I meant actually easy. Practice this:

  1. Fire up the Commodities;
  2. Scroll through to the maps screen;
  3. Press the 'Road' push button;
  4. Scroll down to the route in question;
  5. Press the 'Select' button; and
  6. Press the 'Starting time' push button.

Here is a photo of my thumb as it embarks on the challenge of completing pace 5 higher up. Note how tired it looks.

Monty is an enthusiastic road cyclist with only moderate talent. He started Sportive Cyclist in 2013 to tape the journeying to his starting time 100 mile ride, the RideLondon 100. Over time the blog has expanded to include training advice, gear reviews and road cycling tales, all from the perspective of a not-very-fit MAMIL. Since y'all're here, Monty would besides like you to check out his YouTube aqueduct. Also, Monty really needs to stop referring to himself in the tertiary person.
