I know this may shock some people, simply, OK, I inverse this a little bit when I made information technology. I used four pounds of chili cut meat, and substituted i tin can of crushed tomatoes for i tomato sauce. Just this was one of the best chilis I've ever had, and I similar chili! I put the ingredients in a large crock pot instead of back on the stove. Topped the bowls with shredded cheese and sour foam, and everyone loved it.

This is a adept recipe for those of united states who like thick chili. My husband is not fond of big chunks of tomato. I'chiliad confused as to why Andy used tomato paste. No wonder his chili was dry out. There's a big difference between paste and sauce.

Well, it's a simple recipe, and I like the texture and look of it, but I did take to use thirty oz of tomato sauce, and I found the 3/4 cup chili powder to be merely way too much. Next fourth dimension, I'll use thirty oz tomato sauce and cut the chili powder down to nigh half.

This is an splendid chili recipe. I get in with a few changes and information technology is always delicious. 4 lbs. ground meat instead of 5 2 15 oz. cans of tomatoe sauce instead of one 1 fourteen.5 oz. tin of diced tomatoes 1 14.5 oz can of beef broth 1 1.25 oz. package of chili seasoning six tbs. of chili pulverisation 2 cans of kidney beans instead of one everything else is the same. This gives it a wonderful flavor and consistency. Either mode you cook information technology this is adept chili. Thank you MissCanada!

My family and I enjoyed this recipe "EXACTLY" every bit written. Information technology totally annoys me when no 1 gives the exact recipe a chance BEFORE they get in. The clarification was clear, Compact and NOT lycopersicon esculentum-ey. Why complain it has to much meat and not enough tomato? And why say 5 stars when you mean, fabricated your way? Once the recipe is altered, it is nolonger the original recipe is it?

Dh loves this! Made information technology this evening thank you to the cooler weather and it was a big hit - equally per the other reviews, I used 2.5-3 lbs hamburger, ii 15-oz cans of tomato sauce, so filled one of the cans full of water (about 1 3/4 cups), and cutting dorsum on the chili powder (I can't imagine three/four of a cup) . Also added in a couple of beef bouillon cubes. Yum! I look forward to seeing how it is the second mean solar day.

Love how thick this chili is, even when made w/ 3 lbs. of ground turkey (you need to dark-brown it in a petty olive oil) instead of five lbs. of beef. Tip for beginning cooks: when a chili recipe includes tomato "sauce", it doesn't hateful pasta sauce, merely something like Hunt'southward "tomato sauce" which is basically tomato puree w/ a little salt. In fact, canned tomato puree works just as well. I also love that this recipe used fresh onions, peppers and garlic. I added 2 t. stale marjoram and 1/8 t. cinnamon to compensate for the milder turkey taste. For a potluck, I bask making this in a Dutch oven, then mixing upwardly a batch of Southern-style unsweetened cornbread batter, pouring information technology on top of the chili and blistering the whole matter uncovered on the top rack of a 375*F oven until the cornbread is set and lightly browned.

I like this chili a lot. I froze some of the leftovers and used them for chili cheese fries and on broiled potatoes later.
03/21/2006
3/4 cup of chili pulverization... were you kidding? You must buy in bulk:-) This recipe has so much meat and veggies it was dry so I added more liquid. To starting time with I used 29 instead of 20 ozs of tomato paste and I nevertheless found it likewise dry so I've added some other 29 oz tin (three times what is called for) otherwise this is style also thick.
02/23/2007
Used crushed tomatoes and two cans of beans. Left out the red pepper and used frozen diced onions and dark-green peppers, salt and pepper. Reduced the amount of meat to half and it was still extremely compact.
12/08/2006
great recipe. i did a couple of pocket-size changes. i substituted a can of tomatoes for a can of sauce as suggested and i used a small corporeality of chili seasoning out of a packet. i also used chili beans instead of kindey beans sinse that was what was on hand. i will definitely make once again!!!
08/twenty/2007
I thought this chili was wonderful! I used only 2.v lbs of meat, and used 3 cans of tomato sauce and added 1 tin of chili beans. Those were the just things I changed from the recipe. It was thick and delicious, but next time, I'm going to use some tomato juice to make it a picayune juicer. I do recommend this chili!

Oh, wow this is actually good. I wasn't expecting information technology to taste like a shut version of my grandfather's chili. I've made it twice and the 2nd time hitting it correct on the noggin. I doubled the kidney beans, the water, and used 1 tin diced tomatoes and one can sauce. I too added 2 cans of Manwich sloppy joe sauce. I used about half loving cup of chili pulverisation and 2tbls of brown carbohydrate and 2 tbls of mesquite smokey flavor seasoning. With all the changes the chili is still very thick, a man's chili no doubt! Normally, I dont change the recipe so much but this was a keen starter that got me back to my deceased gramps's recipe. Nosotros havent had his chili in 12 years! Either way y'all brand information technology v stars!

This is a pretty good recipe, but I am non a measure-er. I have made it several ways, I have used ground turkey, but I have NEVER used the 5lbs of meat it calls for. I practice, still, always use a full can of beans, green pepper and red pepper. I sort of eyeball the chili powder and I add some salt to help season some and then I add some hot sauce (texas petes, tabasco, etc)- a few shakes.... and I besides, summit mine off with shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream and I do as well enjoy it served with some nice fresh bakery breadstuff on the side! VERY GOOD bones recipe though! :D
eleven/16/2010
A couple of decades ago I had chili at a diner where it was served in a sundae dish with sour cream on summit and surrounded by fries! I've been looking for a recipe like this ever since....PERFECT! A few changes:: I left out the green peppers...added 3.75 lbs beef, ii cans mixed beans, big can of marzano crushed tomatoes, a couple extra garlic cloves, and a cup chianti.....

Perfect name for this recipe. The men in our family really loved information technology. Volition get in once more (weekly if the guys have their way!).
01/19/2009
No flavor - after sitting in my crock pot for 4 hours, I had to add together salt, more garlic and cumin and it was still bland. The thought behind the chili is good, but be prepared to add together more seasoning to get any flavor to this recipe.
12/eleven/2010
Dandy chili for football, cold days, or clearing your sinus. Proficient recipe added more than tomato sauce 30oz and a jalapeño.
11/10/2010
Our favorite chili recipe. Can make equally recipe states, or add other peppers to bring it up a notch.
08/27/2010
information technology was super easy to make i add together a beer and i wish i did non i call up it would have been much better with the orignal recipe :( simply i will brand information technology once again
02/03/2009

I COULDN'T HAVE Made ENOUGH!!!! I made it for friends, I expected information technology to exist enough. BUT MAN WAS IT Succulent!!! my husband LOVED it and our friends didn't stop eating, I idea I would have enough to bring to work the following day, but when I got up to get seconds, there was barely a spoon total left. They wiped the 6qt pot make clean!!!!!!! This will DEF. be cooked over again in my house!!!

This is a good basic recipe. I used two cans of beans and a 28oz. tin can of tomatoes. I besides added cumin and chipotle chili powder. I substituted a canteen of our favorite beer for the water. Served with cornbread and sides of sour cream and shredded cheese...our guests were very happy!
12/06/2008
very practiced recipe, i added left over cherry tomatoes to the recipe and information technology was delicious. i am making myself some other pot tonight.
10/01/2007
I loved this chili, I fabricated 18 servings and added 2 pounds of italian sausage instead of all ground beef. I also added in several Jalapeno and Serrano peppers for spice. I besides used garlic pulverization instead of fresh garlic. I fabricated enough for everybody at work and it was very well recieved.
10/26/2008
Oh MAN good! I added hot peppers instead of the sugariness ones and added some cumin for personal preference. I too browned the meat and then threw everything into my tiresome cooker and went to bed. With that said, this is an amazingly compact and wonderful chili. It fabricated a ton and it will feed me for a couple of weeks! (I will freeze some) SO Expert!
06/04/2008
I like the way this recipe looked elementary. No 140 ingredients, simple. The simply matter I would modify is add together cumin. After all cumin smells like chili.
01/28/2008
My husband said this was ok. I reduced the chili powder as suggested by others, and the amount of spice was correct. He simply didn't think it had the right consistency. I approximate he's more of a 'soupy' chili guy, but cheers for the recipe anyhow.
07/09/2007
Very good chili. Was a little dry out, added ii cans of diced tomatoes and it came out perfect for me.
ten/22/2007
For my get-go attempt at cooking, I thought I was in big trouble messing with Chili. But it came out great. I added some corn for color. A spoon of sour foam and a side of corn bread and information technology was the best.
01/27/2008
I have put my previous chili recipe away for this one! It's delicious and easy and doesn't take all day to make like some others. I've made this many times already and the family loves it!
11/10/2008

08/09/2007
The reviews help so much...I can't believe how good this recipe was and with the reviews I added extra stuff knowing that it was going to be thick with all that meat....I added an actress jar of pasta sauce, 2 cans of diced tomatoes, actress onions, m. pepper and r peppers.....I served this for a lot of visitor we had over the weekend and got wonderful reviews...I am really going out today to make big batches for the freezer.....this 1 is a keeper!
04/12/2007
Nifty!! i used ii lbs of meat and more tomatoes and mushrooms and chili seasoning package recommended from another writer. nosotros put ours in pita pockets and it was yummie!!! wil make again...
10/14/2007
Very skillful recipe with only a few modifications. We used stewed tomatoes & diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce. Also, used 1/ii C chili powder instead of iii/4 C. Nosotros'll brand this one again!
12/24/2007
I absolutely love this chili!! I am non big on the beans so I add together a half can to my mix. Other than that...hmmmm hmmm hmmm!
12/09/2007
This is good stuff! I made this and everyone that had some just loved information technology. The first time I made it I only made half of what the recipe called for, just it was gone fast. Adjacent time I make information technology, I will make the total recipe.
02/09/2008
This recipe rocks!! I love meat in my chili...I cut back a little on the onion and beans and take every scoop with a cracker! Swell Recipe!!
10/25/2008
If you are looking for a MEATY chili this is it! My husband suggested a meatier chili as opposed to a saucy one - for him this one was "PERFECT" I cut the recipe in half and cooked about ii.5 lbs of meat. And sprinkled chili powder to taste - not as much equally directed. Nosotros sprinkled cheese and some sour cream on tiptop besides, it was just so tasty!! I volition be making this one every time I make chili.
09/xx/2007
My family and I loved how this chili came out i used the cerise Kidney Beans it was fabulous this recipe was a winner in this household and will be used alot thanks for the recipe.
11/06/2007
Serving for four: 1 & 1/two lbs hamburg, 1/iv cup each finely chopped carrots, onions, peppers and 1 clove garlic. I used 2 cans kidney beans and 1 can black beans (nosotros similar a lot of beans) 1/iv cup chilli powder and 1/four bag taco seasoning, one quart (we canned them this summertime) tomatoes (shell with your hands) and enough water to make it the desired consistency. After I browned the meat with the veggies, put information technology all in crock pot for about 5-6 hours depression. Served with buttermilk skillet cornbread and yous are set to go!!!
03/09/2008
The first time I fabricated information technology, information technology was actually too thick for me, and then I inverse it a bit. My version is still thick simply as thick equally the original; I've besides changed this recipe to a lower fatty version using 3 lbs. basis turkey (99% fatty free). I seasoned the turkey with Worcestershire sauce, granulated beef boullion, Complete Seasoning, and my mother-in-constabulary'south sofrito. Instead of using h2o, I used beefiness broth. I as well used 2 cans of chili beans in medium sauce, two cans of burn down-roasted tomatoes with 1 can of tomato sauce. Because I take young children who practise not like spice, I cutting the chili powder dorsum to 1/iv c. I added Tabasco to my personal basin to increase the heat. Fairly Quick and easy for a weeknight supper. If you lot want it concluding a couple of days, serve information technology over a 1/4 cup of Uncle Ben'southward Microwavable Pouch - blazon rice. Delicious!
01/04/2008
Fantabulous chili recipe. I added a trivial extra water to make it the consistency I like and added chili powder to sense of taste - not what the recipe calls for. Cracking compact chili, I don't like beans much and so this was perfect. This does make a lot so set up to freeze some for later on lunches :)
03/05/2008
Ohhh, this was good, my husband, who is from Romania, and generally doesn't care for a lot of American dishes ate this one upwardly and asked when i was going to make it once again!
05/06/2007
This is a actually good starting point chili. I used half of the meat and my husband still commented on how meaty it was. In his book, meaty = good. I cooked it in a crock pot and as it simmered away I would periodically tasted information technology. I was very acidic I combated that with a few tbsp of brown saccharide. I also used a can of diced tomatos in addition to the lycopersicon esculentum sauce. And a light-green and xanthous pepper as that is what I had on hand. Yummy! I will definatly make this once more!
01/02/2012
I e'er utilise this recipe. The only matter that I do dissimilar is adding more beans. I honey this recipe!!
02/24/2006
VERY VERY GOOD recipe!!! THUMBS UP!
05/28/2008
Excellent thick chili. Fabricated this on group camping ground trip for our chili cook-off. Won second. Some people wanted spicy, so next time I'll add together habaneros to theirs. Very thick and tasty. Merely had 3 lbs footing beef every bit someone used some for burgers, but besides added a tin of neat northern beans for contrast and to supercede the space of the missing meat. Worked out well and even better the next day on chili-dogs. Volition definetely be using this recipe over again.
02/12/2008
This is my favourite recipe. Though I did make changes.. I seared beef stewing cubes and simmered it for upwardly to 2 hours in beef broth until it was really tender. I then follwed the recipe and added the beefiness cubes and cooked it all together. I used a can of tomato plant puree and some other of diced tomatoes. It was fantastic!
09/08/2007
My husband doesn't like beans so I tried this recipe and omitted the beans. He loved it! Information technology was definitely a winner for football Dominicus's when all the guys are over.
09/12/2007
Great recipe. I substituted the kidney beans with chili beans...turned out great. Perfect for "leftover night". This fed my family for a few days. To extend it a little longer, I added cooked spaghetti.
03/13/2008
I'm glad anybody loves this recipe this much considering I just threw it together afterwards making likewise much spaghetti sauce I added the chilli pulverization and ta-da Meaty homo chili was born! I like my chili powder some think it's too much by my boys dear information technology spicey! Go on enjoying!
09/03/2007
It'southward a good bones recipe. I think it would be funnier if it had footing Chuck!
05/24/2007
It was extremely meaty and went perfectly with crusty bread. However, despite using more tomato sauce than was stated in the recipe, I still institute information technology a little dry out. I would have liked more sauce especially since I was eating it with bread. All the same, the season was awesome. I'd definitely make this again.
08/06/2007
I followed the recommended changes... 1) cut meat portion in half, 2)used chili pulverization to taste, not the chosen for corporeality(ie lots less) 3)added all the veggies I could think of to add... including all colors of bell pepper, mushrooms, zuchini, and 1 can diced tomotoes. 4) topped with cheese and sour foam. Then YUMMY!!
12/23/2006
That'south a lot of meat. I loved it!
04/21/2007
So yummy!!
09/27/2018
Absolutely love this recipe...I add together whatever leftover steak or single steaks out of the freezer also and it e'er turns Pueblo phenomenal!
eleven/17/2017
So good. Equally with most people, we make some slight variations. We use ground turkey for the meat. Instead of 2 cans of sauce, we utilise 1 tin of sauce and 1 can of paste. If we don't have any fresh garlic, nosotros will use Tastefully Simple Garlic Garlic instead. And in place of regular chili powder, we oftentimes use Tastefully Simple Wahoo Chili seasoning. Out of all the changes we brand though, the only ane I experience is really a necessary change is the sauce/paste one. I just feel similar it needs the paste to brand it a picayune thicker.
09/14/2016
I've made this a few times now, and while I enjoyed it the first time exactly every bit written, I've come up to love this every bit a starting indicate. I ordinarily adjust the recipe for 1 lb ground beef -- 1 tin kidney beans, 1 can tomato sauce, ane/two each light-green, red, and yellow bell peppers and onion (all diced) -- and instead of water, I use depression sodium beef broth. I use the chili-seasoning-mix-ii from this site (minus the flour and add some cayenne pepper for an extra kicking) and this has become my go-to chili recipe. But either style, the original recipe is dandy, too! Will make again.
01/02/2015
This was my beginning shot at making chili. Worked out pretty darn good. Though I added more tomato sauce and a an actress cup of water. As for the chili powder, I'one thousand not certain how much I put in. My friends seemed to like as none was left after all was said and done.
03/31/2021
Corking chili! Super fast and piece of cake. I similar that it doesn't have a ton of ingredients but it is notwithstanding delish!
06/15/2021
Turned out great! i cut the beefiness to 4lbs since most people did. i cutting the chili powere to 1/2 cup cuz i'm a wimp. i added garlic salt cuz it needed table salt.
03/19/2017
Admittedly delicious. Tweak to your heart's content while leaving this recipe as a base. Thick and meaty, this one calls for a repeat. I used a whole cup of chili pulverisation, doubled the garlic and half the meat was hot Italian sausage, and I added a can of corn, for example, and I'll go back to this to try other variations, depending what's in the pantry that day.
12/27/2019
Loved this recipe exactly every bit listed. Perfect for a baked potato bar topping too!
09/24/2017
No flavor
01/fifteen/2020
This Man Chili is both Meaty and Thick.
12/01/2017
Kickoff time making chili and it turned out not bad. Information technology was a trivial also spicy for some of my family members so I think next time I'g only going to use half the chili powder. Besides, I added more beans, about twoscore oz.
10/31/2019
This is then practiced! It was a large hit with my family.
01/20/2019
INCREDIBLE and that's an understatement!! The is a meal yous demand a fork. Great ratio of seasonings and indigents all the fashion around. Thanks and then much for sharing!!!
02/09/2016
excellent recipe, nosotros made this for 40 people...added some diced tomatoes but left the residue pretty much every bit is..Anybody loved it
12/xxx/2017
My husband loves meaty chili and this fit his bill! I added a few more garlic cloves, 30oz of tomato sauce instead of 20oz, and salt to gustation. I also used two green peppers because I didn't take a red one. Dandy recipe! Saved it to my favorites!
10/27/2020
I used jalepeño in place of green pepper. We really enjoyed the dish. Worth a attempt
eleven/05/2012
love thick meaty chili. love chili all year circular only when information technology gets cold its gotta be thick and this does the trick.
12/15/2016
And then meaty.. but I wish the recipe was a scrap more beans, a bit more than - other than meat... still, shredded cheese, sour foam, cornbread, and tums.. i'd do it again.. probably not soon.
02/11/2018
Simple, straightforward, minimal notwithstanding effective chili recipe! No surprise that I likewise took liberties here and in that location. Threw in one teaspoon each of cumin and paprika in addition to a one/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to requite an extra kick of estrus. I also sprinkled some salt to taste but tried to keep that to a minimum. All the flavors come together beautifully and I would highly recommend these additions to brand this recipe more than dynamic/complex! As well thought most calculation some lime juice and cilantro merely decided against it...peradventure those would piece of work well too. To serve the chili, I topped off the bowls with some thick shredded abrupt cheddar, sour cream, and plenty of greenish onions for garnish...just the way I like it and oh and then practiced!!!
